Lena Sharp: Supporting PrEvCan – The importance of nurses, partnerships and funding
Primary cancer prevention can help individuals choose healthy behaviors that could substantially lower their cancer risk, but how can these important messages be delivered to the right people and in the most effective way?
Nurses could play an important part.
With a solid education in health promotion and the opportunity to meet and build numerous trusted relationships with individuals throughout their lifetime, nurses are uniquely placed. In September 2022, the European Oncology Nurses Society (EONS) launched the PrEvCan Campaign, with one objective being to help healthcare professionals, like nurses, better communicate the importance of cancer prevention to their patients.
In this interview, we speak with the Project Lead of PrEvCan, Lena Sharp, RN (Regional Cancer Center Stockholm Gotland, Stockholm, Sweden) to highlight the importance of nurses in this campaign. We also explore the importance of the many partners actively working with EONS, who volunteer their time to promote the campaign’s key messages, and end our interview by discussing the funding behind the initiative.
