Andrzej Hellmann
Andrzej Hellmann is a Professor of Medicine and Head of the Department of Haematology and the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at the Medical University of Gdansk. He was acting Vice Rector of the Medical University of Gdansk between 2005 and 2008. Previously, he was an Associate Professor in the same institution’s Department of Medicine. He is a specialist in internal medicine, haematology and clinical transplantology, and his practical and research interest focuses on myeloproliferative neoplasms. Professor Hellmann is the author or co-author of more than 200 peer-reviewed articles in medical journals including the New England Journal of Medicine and Blood. He is President of the Polish Society of Haematology and Transfusion Medicine and Chairman of chronic myelogenous leukaemia (CML) study group of the Polish Adult Leukaemia Group. He is also a member of the European Leukaemia Network (ELN), the American Society of Hematology (ASH), the European Haematology Association (EHA), the European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) and the International Society of Haematology (ISH). Professor Hellmann completed a post-doctoral fellowship in leukaemia biology at the Hammersmith Hospital in London and received his MD in 1971 and his PhD in 1976 from the Medical University of Gdansk.
