Abstract

Overview

Laparoscopic surgery for colon and rectal cancer can provide equal oncological outcomes to open surgery when performed by an experienced team. The short-term benefits of laparoscopic surgery are a faster recovery of gastrointestinal functions, reduced pain, shorter hospital stay and a faster return to normal activity. Surgical quality measures are well known and should be respected in all patients undergoing laparoscopic resection.
