The World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition (WBCPC) has launched its first Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) to strengthen the scientific foundation of its global advocacy and patient engagement work.

The SAB is an independent advisory body made up of internationally renowned experts in urology, oncology, radiotherapy, pathology, nursing, and research. Its mission is to provide WBCPC leadership with authoritative guidance on scientific and clinical matters, ensuring that all coalition activities are informed by the latest evidence and aligned with best practices in bladder cancer care.

Key roles of the SAB include:

  • Ensuring the scientific accuracy of WBCPC resources and patient information
  • Advising on awareness, education, and advocacy initiatives
  • Bridging the gap between medical expertise and patient experience
  • Supporting stronger collaboration between healthcare professionals and patient communities

The SAB is chaired by Dr Ashish Kamat, Endowed Professor of Urologic Oncology and Cancer Research at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, with Dr Karima Oualla and Prof. Jeremy Teoh serving as Vice-Chairs. Together, they lead a diverse global panel of experts dedicated to advancing person-centred bladder cancer care.

By embedding scientific rigor into every aspect of WBCPC’s work, the SAB is helping to ensure that patients worldwide can access trustworthy information, evidence-based advocacy, and care that reflects both clinical innovation and lived experience.

About the World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition

The World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition (WBCPC) was established in January 2019 by a group of dedicated patient advocates from three major national bladder cancer organizations that saw the need for a global bladder cancer coalition. The coalition now brings together 16 patient organisations from 6 continents, uniting the vision and goals of bladder cancer patient organisations to ensure the best possible outcomes for bladder cancer patients across the world. This coalition constitutes the first time that people affected by bladder cancer have a force connecting bladder cancer patients, groups, and organisations worldwide.
