7 January 2025, Brussels – The European Cancer Organisation (ECO) is pleased to announce the appointment of Elisabetta Zanon as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 3 February.
Elisabetta is a senior professional with more than 20 years of experience in European affairs, much of it as a dynamic champion for better healthcare. This includes working for EU associations and representing public sector organisations. She has a successful track record of influencing EU policy as well as designing and implementing extensive EU communication campaigns.
Her most recent leadership roles include serving as Director of EU Public Affairs & Advocacy at the Alliance for Regenerative Medicine and as Director of Advocacy for the European Society of Cardiology where she spearheaded ESC participation in EU-funded research projects and launched and managed the ESC Patient Forum.
Prior to that, Elisabetta established the National Health Service (NHS) European Office in Brussels in 2007 and served as Director of that office for ten years.
European Cancer Organisation President Csaba Dégi said: ‘Elisabetta has earned a stellar reputation. She has shown time and again how she can bring people together to create better healthcare policies. She is a doer, and at ECO we have much to do. She is just the person we need to help guide our organisation and its mission of improving cancer care through our unique multi-professional, multi-disciplined, and patient-focused approach.’
Elisabetta said: ‘I am deeply honoured and humbled to join ECO as its new Chief Executive Officer. I look forward to working with the ECO President, its Board, staff, and vast community to advance our mission of reducing the burden of cancer across Europe. Together, we will work tirelessly to reduce inequalities in cancer prevention and care, and improve the lives of all those affected by this disease.’
