This issue of touchREVIEWS in Oncology & Haematology brings together a diverse collection of articles reflecting the growing complexity of cancer care and the continued evolution of precision medicine across tumour types. From rare malignancies and treatment-related challenges to emerging targeted therapies and novel biological insights, the contributions highlight both recent progress and the significant unmet needs that remain across oncology.

We begin with a timely review by Azenkot et al. examining the relationship between acquired immunosuppression and skin cancer risk. As the population of immunosuppressed patients continues to expand, understanding the
mechanisms underlying increased susceptibility to cutaneous malignancies is essential, alongside the importance of prevention, early detection and multidisciplinary care.

Fujii et al. then address the persistent challenges in small bowel adenocarcinoma, a rare but increasingly recognized gastrointestinal malignancy. They outline the limitations of current treatment paradigms, and explore the promise of biomarker-driven approaches. Notably, the emergence of antibody–drug conjugates offers renewed hope in a disease where progress has historically been constrained by its rarity.

Advances in pancreatic cancer care are comprehensively reviewed by Alshwayyat et al., who synthesize current knowledge spanning epidemiology, molecular biology, diagnostics and treatment strategies. Their article highlights the complexity of tumour biology and the ongoing challenges in early detection and therapeutic innovation, while exploring emerging modalities such as immunotherapy, artificial intelligence and novel biomarkers.

Pereira et al. examine the impact of corticosteroid use on outcomes in patients receiving immune checkpoint inhibitors, providing important insights into how timing, dosage and indication can influence therapeutic benefit and reinforcing the need for individualized clinical decision-making.

In the era of precision oncology, targeted therapies continue to redefine treatment landscapes. Pallas et al. present a focused review on HER2-mutant non-small cell lung cancer, highlighting the clinical development and
emerging role of zongertinib, a promising option for a molecularly defined subgroup of patients.

Finally, Soares et al. explore the development of imipridones in diffuse midline glioma, outlining their unique mechanisms of action and future therapeutic potential in this challenging disease.

We hope this issue provides valuable perspectives for clinicians and researchers and supports ongoing efforts to improve outcomes for patients with cancer. The editors of touchREVIEWS in Oncology & Haematology and myself would like to extend our gratitude to all contributing authors for their valuable expertise, to our reviewers for their time and thoughtful insights, and to our Editorial Board and society partners for their continued dedication. We hope this issue provides both inspiration and practical guidance as you navigate the rapidly evolving field of oncology and haematology.
